GMRS Mobile Radios and Walkie Talkies Improve Safety on the Farm
Table of Contents
At Midland, our AG partners are at the heart of everything we do. From long days in the field to early mornings before sunrise, farmers rely on clear, dependable communication to keep operations running smoothly. That's why we're proud to spotlight the people who trust Midland's GMRS mobile radios and walkie talkies to stay connected and get the job done, season after season.Ā
A Family Farm
Bryce Peters is a third-generation farmer, working on his family's corn, soybean, wheat, and cattle operation. He works alongside his dad, two uncles, and grandpa.Ā
"My favorite component of it for my operation is working with my family. You get to know your uncles differently than you normally would get to know them."
The family connection makes it special and something he always knew he'd find his way back to. He works a sales job full time when he's not out in the fields helping.Ā
"There's not quite enough work for me to come in full time yet. It's something we're working towards."

An Ever Evolving JobĀ
While he thoroughly enjoys working alongside his family, Bryce also appreciates that his job on the farm brings something new each day.Ā
āI thoroughly enjoy the seasonality of it I donāt like doing the same thing every day. Thatās the beauty of farming- you do the same things every year, but itās not every day. There are seasons to it.ā

Sharing His Experience on Social Media
He first began sharing his life on the farm with his phone after his parents encouraged him to do so.Ā
āMy parents have always pushed me really hard to do it because I like to talk. They felt I needed to do something like share on social media. I just started sharing what we do, share about us, and show that a diverse farming operation is pretty hard to find with livestock.ā
They recently added turkeys to the farm, but don't expect to see that on his social just yet.
"We are still getting the hang of things! They're new!"
GMRS Mobiles and Walkie Talkies Transform Safety
The Peters Family Farm began using GMRS mobile radios and walkie talkies about a year ago.
They use the MicroMobileĀ® GMRS 15-Watt Two-Way Radio Farm Tractor Bundle - MXT115AGVP3, MXT500 MicroMobileĀ® GMRS 50-Watt Two-Way Radio - MXT500, GXT3000 GMRS Walkie Talkie 2 Pack - GXT3000VP4, and Amplified External Speaker with AI Noise Cancellation - SPK200.Ā
āWe had seen the MicroMobiles that mount in the tractor and thought about how nice they would be. We were so happy when you sent those, but you guys also sent us the handhelds too. I didnāt think we would use them very much, but we would be lost without them.ā
While the GMRS two-way radios have improved efficiency on the farm, the Peters family is incredibly blown away by the impact to safety.
āDad and I have discussed that either moving equipment or parking equipment in sheds is sometimes dangerous. Sheds are dark and either donāt have good lighting or any lighting, and youāre trying to back equipment in there, weāve used those radios and we feel like those make us a little safer, equipment is big and itās hard to see, if you get pinched between that piece of equipment a wall, itās not going to go well.ā
They also use them as they move equipment down the road which can be incredibly dangerous because theyāre windy and narrow.
āWhenever we are on some narrow roads that we canāt see very far ahead of us, sometimes there will be vehicles that pull out in front of you or around the corner that you canāt see. Unfortunately, thereās no other way to see them, other than to have someone out in front flagging them. With the radios, weāre able to be safer because we can radio back and tell them that someone is coming. Thatās priceless for us.ā
Bryce enjoys the MicroMobiles, particularly the MXT115 because itās easy to install, but the handhelds are a favorite amongst others on the operation. Ā
āThey are just so darn handy. If you ask my dad, itās the handhelds. He loves those things.ā

February on the Farm
During the month of February, the family is doing a lot of grain hauling, using the handhelds for loading trucks.
āThereās a lot of livestock things that weāre tending to. We hope that we arenāt beginning spring calving yet, but sometimes thereās some wildcards that get away from us. Sometimes we have calves hitting the ground, but weāre also spreading manure.ā
Beyond that, the farm is preparing for planting season.
āWeāre getting planters ready, tillage tools ready, the sprayer ready for spring. Thatās 90% of whatās going on during February.ā
As Bryce works toward a future full time on the farm, the Peters family continues to lean on strong communication, shared goals, and the connection that comes from working side by side through every season.
