Missouri Farmer Utilizes Two-Way Radios for Communication
Midland Radio agriculture partner, Nick Kientzy turns to two-way radios for seamless communication on the farm.
He shares how two-way radios bring efficiency and safety to his operation.
ABOUT KIENTZY
Nick Kientzy is a fourth-generation farmer in Silex, Missouri. Farming is in his blood.
“I was born here. I’ve been farming ever since I was born. I’m one of three kids that my parents had. We were all raised on the farm. We were born to help out- we were helping out on weekdays after school, on weekends.”
He attended Missouri State University where he got his degree in Agricultural Communications. He’s since started his own photo and video company.
“I wanted to combine that with farming.”
Luckily, his favorite aspect of farming is harvest season.
“Harvest can either make you or break you. It can be really rewarding when you get to the end of the long, 130-day harvest or growth period and you get to reap the rewards. Sometimes it can go bad, but the years it’s good, it’s a really good feeling.”
LEVELING UP COMMUNICATION WITH TWO-WAY RADIOS
Kientzy said his family farm uses Midland’s MXT500 MicroMobile® Two-Way Radio, MXT115 MicroMobile® Two-Way Radio, and several handhelds. He said the two-way radios have streamlined operations on the farm.
“We use the radios all the time. They’ve been such a huge help. We’ve been putting the MicroMobiles in our tractors and combines, the handhelds on our persons, especially during harvest and planting.
Without the two-way radios, communication wouldn’t exist.
A lot of our land doesn’t have good cellphone service. With these radios, we can have most of our farm covered easily.”
Kientzy’s family farm has tested out Midland’s SPK200 Amplified Speaker with AI Noise Cancellation.
“The new speaker is crazy loud and noise cancelling. I didn’t think radios could ever get to that level. You can hear everything while the tractor is going full throttle.”
OCTOBER ON THE FARM
During the month of October, the Kientzy family is busy with harvest in full swing.
“Harvest is a big part of October. That’s pretty much what the entire month is all about. We try to go all in on a certain thing at a certain time to save time because there are only a few of us out there.”
However, him and his brothers still make sure to find time for fun.
“We may have some time for some fall activities like the pumpkin patches with our girlfriends.”
