ABOUT FOLDS OF HONOR

Lt Col Dan Rooney started Folds of Honor after his flight home from his second tour of duty in Iraq. While on his flight, he learned the plane carried the remains of Corporal Brock Bucklin on board. After the flight, he noticed Corporal Bucklin's twin brother walk alongside the flag-covered casket to meet the rest of the family on the tarmac, including fallen Corporal Bucklin's young son.

The organization is named after the folded flag- something it says is, "a constant reminder of those who have paid the ultimate price for our freedom. It inspires us to help equip and educate their loved ones in need of our support." Since 2007, Folds of Honor has provided scholarships to the spouses and children of America's fallen or disable military. Now, the organization's mission has expanded to include the families of America's first responders.

Over the years Folds of Honor has awarded 51,000 scholarships. 45% of all scholarships awarded represent minority recipients.

91% of the funds collected by Folds of Honor go directly to the scholarships benefitting the families of American military and first responders.
