Upgrading from CB to GMRS- Missouri Farmer Turns to MicroMobiles
Chris Robbins, a Missouri farmer is turning to Midland's MicroMobile® GMRS Two-Way Radios after using CB radios for years.
About Robbins
Chris Robbins is a second-generation farmer in Missouri.
“I was born into it. My dad was a farmer.”
Learning from his dad was special and now he has the chance to do the same with his son, Jake.
“I enjoy teaching him what my father taught me. I wouldn’t be able to handle the size of our custom harvesting operation without his help,” Robbins said.
Custom harvest
Robbins’ dad started the custom harvest operation. This part of the operation takes him to farms in Missouri, Kansas, and Oklahoma. It’s a unique part of the job that he appreciates.
“You really get to see different people. You get to experience different types of land, bigger fields.”
A love for farming
For him, farming is often peaceful.
“It’s relaxing. When you’re out there in the tractor by yourself away from everybody, it’s just really relaxing when you’re in your own little world.”
And when he’s having a good year, farming is all the more enjoyable, something farmers everywhere can relate to.
“I love it when everything is going right.”
December on the farm
During the month of December, Robbins and his son are working on preparing for the planting season.
“We’re just getting ready for spring, working on equipment, making sure everything is good to go. We’re really working on the planters, field cultivators might need shovels, semi trucks need tune ups.”
Switching from CB to MicroMobile GMRS
The Robbins operation uses Midland’s MXT115 MicroMobile® GMRS 15-Watt Two-Way Radio - MXT115 and GXT1000 GMRS Walkie Talkie 2 Pack - GXT1000VP4.
He loves the quality of the radios, an improvement from CB radios.
“They’re just so clear.”
During custom harvesting, he’s able to reach the entire team all at once.
“A lot of time we’re using the radios to coordinate the help, plan ahead.”
Robbins noted the versatility and mobility of the handhelds, offering him the ability to stay in touch with others as he moves around.
“I carry a GXT1000 with me all the time. If I see a safety issue, I’m able to let the guys know to watch out for this or that. If somebody is doing something that they don’t need to be doing, I can correct them on the radios quickly and easily.”
