What is some helpful advice to a first-time shed hunter?
“Never be disappointed but keep putting the miles on. Pre scouting will help a lot and remember it takes up to 45-60 days for elk and deer to all shed so that means they shed over a lot of square miles.”

You never know what will be laying around the next tree or bush, and the excitement you feel when you find a big set of antlers gives him a serious rush of happiness! Shed hunting allows him to spend time with his family and of course get in shape when you are hiking hundreds of miles! “My Midland GXT1000. Being able to stay in contact with my hiking buddies is so important. It’s fun to stay in touch when someone finds a shed but more importantly to know if someone gets hurt. The country we hike in is very unforgiving and we are a long way from civilization. Always nice to have the peace of mind that if something went wrong, we can get in touch with each other immediately.”

What’s your favorite part about shed hunting?
“So many things I love about shed hunting. But it’s hard to explain to anyone what it’s like walking up on an antler that you know for a fact no other human has found or touched. Almost nothing in the world better than walking up on a 400” brown elk set. My wife always kids with people saying it’s like an Easter egg hunt but for adults. But I would for sure say being the first person to ever walk up and pick up a shed.”
