Is there volume control on the speaker itself?
The SPK100 does not have volume control. It plugs into your radio with a standard 3.5mm audio jack and then would follow the volume control on the radio. It is designed to give more volume and better sound quality that the radio's built-in speaker.

Do I need a license to operate this radio?

How far will two of these MXT115's reach? Looking to get two for tractors, and would like them to have a couple mile range to communicate.
All radios operate on line of sight and optimal conditions, but as a 15 Watt radio, in normal conditions, you could expect this radio to reach between 8 and 15 miles.
