AN "AMERICAN DREAM"

Jose Valdez opened upĀ Paleterias Tropicana,Ā a Mexican ice cream shop, when he moved to the United States over a decade ago. They own five locations across the Kansas City area. This business is their ā€œAmerican Dream."

Ā ā€œWhen we started the business, it was just us. When I say us I mean my two daughters, my wife, and myself. We started in 2004.ā€œ

To them, it is all about offering a unique product that other immigrants might miss seeing in their home country.

ā€œThey can come here to our stores, feeling like they’re at home.ā€

THE NEED TO COMMUNICATE

The business is big…serving homemade ice cream, shakes, appetizers, tortas, and even churros.
Ā
Keeping in touch throughout the store is crucial. That is why they use Midland radios to communicate.
Ā
ā€œInstead of running from the east side, to the westside, to the north side, we can just push a button and say, ā€˜Hey, we are busy, we need help.ā€

Tropicana’s favorite Midland Radio is theĀ BizTalk BR200. Staff have been using it for the last eight years.
Ā
ā€œThey make it very easy, so easy to talk to one another. We try to stay off our phones and this replaces that and is more reliable.ā€
Ā
Because at the end of the day, we all need to find a way to scream for ice cream.
