At Midland, we believe in supporting the veterans who have sacrificed so much for our country. We consider ourselves lucky to partner with organizations that work daily to ensure the health, happiness, and wellbeing of our vets. Hero Expeditions focuses on providing outdoor adventures for our heroes. We spoke with Chris Johnson of Hero Expeditions about what their organization stands for and how they use Midland radios in everyday operations.

Can you describe your organization/foundation?

We are a non-profit that is focused on helping veterans, law enforcement, fire and first responders. We started the non-profit when we realized many veterans feel like they are forgotten when returning from active duty. Our website is www.heroexpeditions.org.

Why do you choose to work in the outdoors space with your heroes?

We have found that hunting and fishing really help the hero to “escape” for a few days. We provide all encompassing accommodations and also the opportunity for veterans to meet other people in their same or similar situation. We really focus on the camaraderie between the participants and ourselves. We aspire to create long lasting relationships with heroes. We also will bring them back to help with future hunts and keep them involved in the organization.

What made you want to be a part of this organization?

I was asked to be on the board to help with the fundraising aspect of what we do. Military has been in the forefront of my mind for the sacrifices that they make to keep us safe and free.

Which Midland radios are you using?

We use the MicroMobile® MXT115 in our side by side, trucks and equipment trailers. While outside, we use the GXT1050 camo handhelds.

Hero Expeditions helps our vets.

How are you using our radios?

We use the radios to keep in communication while setting up, tearing down, hunting and most importantly, safety. We are usually in the backcountry where cell phone don’t work and safety is a priority.

Any advice for people struggling right now?

Just know you are not alone, we have all heard that “we are in this together” but not many people know the avenues for help when assistance is needed. Reach out to anyone when things get tough. We all want to be part of a solution and I would much rather listen to you and your current situation, rather than knowing you needed someone and not ever having the chance to be heard.

Anything else you would like to add?

We really appreciate the opportunity to partner with Midland for all our needs that allow us to keep doing what we do. Partnerships like this are the lifeline of what we need to keep doing what we do. Thanks for everything!
