Midland Radio recently launched its new MXT115 and MXT275 MicroMobile Two-Way GMRS Radio.

In addition to its USB-C charging ports, the new MicroMobiles now offer split tone capability.

What are split tones?

Split tones are a function used on repeaters. These GMRS tones allow the owner and/or manager to require a different tone to transmit and receive. This helps them keep unauthorized users from accessing their repeaters.

Turning Repeater On

  1. Select Menu to enter Menu Mode
  2. Use channel up and down buttons to scroll through your options until you get to, “Rp” for repeater
  3. Press Select to enter Repeater Options
  4. Use the Channel Up/Down buttons to scroll to “oN
  5. Press Select to activate repeater channels
  6. You will automatically exit Menu Mode
  7. The repeater channels will now be available for selection
  8. They will be indicated by an “RP” symbol next to the channel number (15-22)

Setting Split Tones Up On MXT115

  1. Select appropriate “RP” Channel (ex: 15 rp)
  2. Select Menu and use Mic to Scroll to "rC: (Receive)
  3. Press Scan to select “rC”
  4. You will find options for “ct” (CTCSS) Code, “dc” (DCS) Code, or “oF” (Off)
  5. Use Mic to scroll through above options
  6. Press Scan to Select DCS or CTS
  7. You will be taken to options for Tone Selection
  8. Use Mic to scroll through Tone options
  9. Press Scanto Select desired tone
  10. You will automatically exit Menu Mode
  11. Select Menu and use Mic to Scroll to “tC”(Transmit)
  12. Press Scan to select “tC
  13. You will find options “ct” (CTCSS) Code, "dc: (DCS) Code, or “oF” (Off)
  14. Use Mic to scroll through above options
  15. Press Scan to Select
  16. You will find options for Tone Selection
  17. Use Mic to scroll through Tone options
  18. Press Scanto Select desired tone
  19. You will automatically exit Menu Mode

When setting up split tones on the MXT275, the select button has the “lock” symbol and is located on the left hand side of the mic.

Before You Go…

On the new MXT275 USB-C version, there is a new mic. This is not compatible with the MXT275 USB-A version. Both are on the website. You can find the new mic under part number MA75 while the old mic is part number MA275.
