THE EVENT
Six Degrees worked with Midland and several other brands to distribute 250 Hurricane Preparedness Kits in Houston, Texas.
"Houston is a very flat city, its soil is mostly clay and the region is very prone to flooding. When significant weather systems enter the area they often settle over Houston, producing large amounts of rain (and even snow). We felt that by providing BKxKB resource kits aimed at helping residents be more prepared for inclement weather, we could reduce some risk and help ensure the community had access to potentially life saving resources," Brigid Zuknick, Director of Programs and Development with Six Degrees said.Â
Zuknick said it was encouraging to see the community engaged in emergency preparedness.
"Neighbors were thrilled to see us and to receive their BKxKB resource kits. Their gratitude for the generous contents of the kits was palpable. One neighbor came by four different times to retrieve resource kits, on their last visit we learned that they were taking kits to deliver at the laundromat a few blocks away to older residents who were unable to make it up the street to our distribution area. Heart warming, and a reminder that kindness is contagious!"

MIDLAND JOINS THE CAUSE
Six Degrees reached out to Midland to get involved in the kit building. Through the program, Midland donated 250 emergency crank radios to the Houston, Texas area, primarily hoping to get children involved in storm safety.Â
"While working alongside our network partners at Student Conservation Association, they shared that during Hurricane Harvey, many residents (and particularly Spanish-speaking residents) were unprepared for the storm and its impact. By providing a storm radio, we knew that this tool would help families gain knowledge about the weather and its potential impacts. Midland was an exceptional partner to us in this effort. The radios provided are a key element to preparedness," Zuknick said.Â
Midland was thrilled to participate in the giveaway of Kevin Bacon Foundation as it feels it's crucial for those in hurricane zones to understand the importance of an emergency radio.
"Preparedness is key to safely evacuating or riding out a storm like a hurricane. We were more than happy to get involved with Six Degrees in their mission of promoting safety for people of all ages. That starts with getting the right information straight from the National Weather Service," Andrew Kinsman, Director of Marketing Shared Services for Midland said.Â
