Maddy's Journey to KC

Growing up in the Centennial State, Maddy Bennett was surrounded by the stunning landscapes of Colorado. Though she now calls Kansas City home, her journey has taken her across different parts of the country, each place leaving a unique mark on her experiences.

“I grew up in Littleton, Colorado. It’s a suburb of Denver, so I spent a lot of time in the outdoors,” Maddy shares. “From there, I went to school at Middle Tennessee State University, which brought me to Nashville. I lived there during college, and it was super fun. The energy and the live music made it an incredible place to be.”

After her time in Tennessee, Maddy made the move to Wichita, Kansas, where she spent 4 years. “I wanted to be closer to family, and Wichita gave me that opportunity,” she explains. “It was a great place to settle in for a bit.”

Now, for the past 3 years, Maddy has been thriving in Kansas City—a place she has grown to love. “The best part about Kansas City is the people and the town itself,” she says. “The people are all very genuine, friendly, and welcoming. There’s always something going on, whether it’s a local festival, a sports event, or a new restaurant popping up.”

One of her favorite aspects of KC is its vibrant music scene. “It’s full of incredibly talented people. There’s a lot of jazz, which has deep roots here, but also indie artists, rock, and country—it’s really diverse,” Maddy says. And, of course, the BBQ is unbeatable. “There’s no shortage of amazing food spots, and everyone has their own opinion on which BBQ joint is the best.”

For Maddy, Kansas City is more than just a place she lives—it’s a community that feels like home.

In Her Spare Time

A creative at heart, Maddy spends much of her free time crafting and exploring different artistic outlets. She enjoys working with a variety of materials and techniques, finding joy in bringing her ideas to life.

"I like to do all kinds of crafting—so anything with yarn, anything with paints, and any kind of collaging," she shares. Whether it's knitting a new project, experimenting with colors on canvas, or assembling intricate collages, Maddy loves the hands-on process of making something unique.

Her creativity doesn’t stop there. Music is another passion that plays a big role in her life.

"I love to play music," she says.

She not only sings but also plays both the piano and guitar. Her love for performing started early, with a background in theatre that allowed her to develop confidence on stage and explore different styles of music.

"I was big into theatre back in the day. I just love performing. I enjoy the oldies and really just singing anything."

For Maddy, artistic expression is a major part of who she is—whether she's crafting, playing an instrument, or singing a classic tune.

Her Path to Midland

Marketing has always felt like a natural fit for Maddy, blending her creative instincts with her passion for strategy and communication.

From an early age, she was drawn to the field, influenced by both her upbringing and her own curiosity about how brands connect with people.

"I knew since high school that I wanted to do marketing. We learned about it in English class. My parents are both in marketing and sales, so I grew up around it. I originally wanted to be a commercial jingle writer. I realized that is not for me."

While the world of jingle writing wasn’t the right path, Maddy found her niche in marketing through collaboration and creative problem-solving.

"I like being able to be creative and think differently about the same thing. I like thinking about different ways our customers can engage with our products."

Her journey at Midland began when she moved from Wichita to Kansas City, starting her role on Valentine’s Day of 2022. From the very beginning, she jumped into the team with enthusiasm, carving out a unique role for herself within the Marketing Department.

"I've just kind of made a little hole for myself in the Marketing Department. I realized I liked doing the messaging, promotions, all of that. I've worked really hard on growing our lists."

Over time, her responsibilities evolved, and she took on the role of Customer Acquisition and Retention Manager. In this position, she helps shape product launches, campaigns, and customer engagement strategies, working closely with the rest of the marketing team to bring creative ideas to life.

For Maddy, one of the best parts of her job isn’t just the work itself—it’s the people she gets to work with every day.

"The people make it fun and create a good environment. It's fun to go into the office. It's just a really good community of people."

From strategizing marketing campaigns to fostering a strong customer connection, Maddy has found a place where her creativity, collaboration, and passion for engagement all come together at Midland.

Favorite Midland Product

Maddy's favorite Midland product is the GXT67 GMRS 5-Watt Two-Way Radio - GXT67 PRO, a model that has stood out to her for both its features and design.

"It has all the features you could want. It was a really fun launch. I think it's just a really nice product that looks really cool."

Being part of Midland’s team has given Maddy a new appreciation for two-way radios and their importance in everyday life, even in an era dominated by smartphones. She quickly realized just how essential they can be, especially in situations where reliable communication is critical.

"Cell phone service isn't always reliable. Two-way radios are an easy way to stay in contact if you are riding around, if you're needing your message to be heard, they're good for safety, you don't have to wait for someone to pick up their phone, it's instant communication."

Maddy has seen firsthand how two-way radios can make life easier, even outside of professional or emergency situations. Her own family has taken advantage of Midland’s technology, using walkie talkies to stay connected while on vacation.

"The most useful place I've used my walkie talkies is when my family went to Silver Dollar City. We broke up into groups and each group had a radio. That way we weren't having to make sure that our phones were on. It let the older kids go off on their own. It made everything easier."

The convenience of instant communication has made Maddy a firm believer in the usefulness of two-way radios. Whether she’s on an outdoor adventure, in a crowded area, or working on a project that requires coordination, she’s found that having a reliable GMRS radio can make all the difference.

"The need for a two-way radio pops up more than you would think. Sometimes you're doing something and you realize you should have brought your walkie talkies because they would have made something a lot easier."

From everyday activities to outdoor excursions, Maddy knows that having the right communication tools on hand can provide both safety and convenience—and that’s exactly what makes Midland’s products, like the GXT67 GMRS 5-Watt Two-Way Radio, such a valuable resource.
