The Federal Communications Commission slashed the GMRS licensing cost by 50%.

So, how much does a GMRS license cost? The GMRS License fee will now be $35 instead of $70. 

Per the FCC's notice, the change will take effect April 19, 2022.

ABOUT GMRS LICENES

GMRS licenses cover an individual and their immediate families.

The license last ten years. 

Licenses can be renewed between 90 days prior to the expiration date and up to the actual expiration date of the license. After a license expires, you must request a new GMRS license. 

To apply for a GMRS license, you must be 18 years or older and not a representative of a foreign government. If you receive a license, any immediate family member, regardless of their age, can operate GMRS stations and units within the license system. 

Any radio using the shared FRS/GMRS frequencies that is able to transmit above 2-Watts of power is classified as GMRS. GMRS radios can include handheld walkie talkies or in-unit mobile radios
