Kansas City, MO – Midland Radio Corporation is proud to be chosen as the first Weather Ready Nation™(WRN) Ambassador in the United States. As such, the company will work closely in partnership with the National Weather Service to inspire citizens to be informed and prepared to minimize the impact of natural disasters.
Bruce Jones, Meteorologist at Midland, said, “The United States of America is home to the wildest weather on earth. Tornadoes, hurricanes, floods, blizzards…we have to survive them all. We are excited to be a ‘Weather-Ready Nation Ambassador’ to encourage every home, school, and business to create a safety kit, have a plan, and take appropriate action when severe weather threatens. Let’s all get weather-ready!”
To achieve WRN Ambassador status, Midland was required to submit an application detailing their commitment to perform the following actions:
Taking this commitment seriously, last month Midland gave each employee an ER300 emergency crank weather alert radio and highlighted the importance of preparedness at a company-wide meeting. In years prior, each employee has also been offered a WR120 desktop weather alert radio to stay safe and informed at home in case of severe weather or other emergency situations.
“All of us at Midland are grateful to be so well prepared for severe weather,” said Lisa Donnelly, Marketing Communications Manager at Midland. “Having a weather alert radio really provides peace of mind that we can help keep our families safe, and now as the first Weather-Ready Nation Ambassadors we can continue to help spread that message wherever we go.”
The Department of Homeland Security and the National Weather Service also recommend a NOAA All Hazards Weather Alert Radio in every home and business. These weather radios have been called the “indoor tornado siren” for their ability to alert you to dangerous weather, and can even wake you when you’re asleep.
As the leading manufacturer of consumer weather alert radios, Midland has been a long-time supporter of education regarding the importance of staying informed during severe weather and civil emergencies, making the WRN Ambassador program a perfect fit.
