Do I need a license to operate this radio?
Yes! The FCC requires a GMRS radio license as a way to regulate frequencies that are used by two-way radio devices. Before operating a GMRS radio, a consumer must have a valid license, but it's easy to apply, is valid for10 years, and covers your entire immediate family.

Does this radio need to be hardwired to my vehicle's battery?
Nope! The MXT115 comes with a 12V cigarette lighter plug for power. It does not require hardwiring.

How far will two of these MXT115's reach? Looking to get two for tractors, and would like them to have a couple mile range to communicate.
All radios operate on line of sight and optimal conditions, but as a 15 Watt radio, in normal conditions, you could expect this radio to reach between 8 and 15 miles.

Does the MXT115 have wideband capabilities?
The MXT115 will always be narrowband on regular channels and it will always be wideband on repeater channels. The switch happens automatically, with no option for programming or manual switching between the 2 bandwidths.
