Are these radios compatible with my FRS walkie talkies?
The GXT series will switch to FRS Wattage on channels 8-14, allowing for compatibility with other FRS handhelds. Just ensure you are on the same channel on the other handheld and you will be able to communicate within range.

Do I need a license to operate this radio?
Midland's GXT radios are GMRS radios, which requires a license from the FCC to operate legally. However, it is a simple process, only $35, and covers you and your immediate family for 10 years. The 36 mile range is in perfect conditions such as mountain top to mountain top. Range is affected by environment and obstructions. Multiple ranges are displayed on the packaging of the radios. The GXT averages 1/2-2 miles in normal conditions.
