September is National Preparedness Month with the theme “Be Disaster Aware, Take Action to Prepare.” Ready.gov is encouraging all citizens to Be Informed, Make a Plan, Build a Kit, and Get Involved. If you do just one thing this month, make an emergency communication plan. Figure out how you will stay in touch and find each other if a situation should occur, because the most important thing you’ll want to know in an emergency is that your family is okay. Find out more about how to do this on the Family Communication section of the Ready.gov website.
Earlier this year, Midland was proud to be chosen as the first Weather Ready Nation™ Ambassador in the United States. As such, the company has been working closely in partnership with the National Weather Service to inspire citizens to be informed and prepared to minimize the impact of natural disasters.
“It is so important to be prepared, not only for weather related disasters but also for other unforeseen emergency situations,” said Bruce Thomas, Chief Meteorologist and National Spokesperson for Midland. “We take our commitment as Weather Ready Nation Ambassadors seriously and we want everyone to take time during National Preparedness Month to get their families ready.”
Preparing for emergencies can be a fun activity involving the whole family. From getting kits ready to making plans for communication, the time spent preparing will be well worth it if it should ever be needed. It only needs to take an hour or two to prepare a kit and make sure each family member knows what to do in an emergency situation.
Midland offers several products that are great additions to an emergency preparedness kit. An emergency crank radio, portable weather radio, or desktop weather alert radio can all be great choices for your home.
