Midland T31VP is a great medium all around radio!
You cant go wrong with the quality of this unit. I go all the way back in the 80s where Midland, Cobras, Uniden were competing toe to toe for the brass podium. Ill be honest here,, the price tag on this unit nowadays is "too much radio for the money I paid for". With all the features and advancement of this radio is very hard to touch this so I appreciate everything Midland has offered me. I use this radio when we go to the market, convention, field meetings, hiking etc. I drop the volume to down a bit so I wont have to bother other people, put in the keypad lock, put it inside my pocket. Smallest dependable 2 way radio you can ever get. 2-3 days don't drain my batteries.
My advise to you is dump that factory AAA battery and replace it with a 900mah rechargeable. You will enjoy the use of that radio 5 times more than the stock batteries that includes the time usage. It is no secret. The Y charging cable that is supplied is the best charger you can get. It gives you a slow charging mode that benefits more operating time than fast charging and prolonging the life span of your battery too. Don't be a shmuck! Think before criticize the product then leaving a bad feedback to a business that's been there for so many decades trying to help people. Au Revoir!!

I bought these to communicate with the kids at camp. Given the price range, I didn’t expect the range I got. I was also impressed with the clarity (volume below 5). For the price I would recommend these radios to those who want a basic two way radio with a two to three mile range (tested rural), at a reasonable price.

I got walkie for my co-work and me for work and we love them and it work great with other midland walkie we have at work. The only things we finding out is recharged not hold it charge and we charge at overnight and it not full charge. But I think I going use alkaline batter and see how long it will work.

Very good radios ! very clear sound no complaints at all. I would however recommend upgrading the batteries they aren’t the best but for the price you get an excellent radio and that’s what counts.

Midland radio for camping and weather reports
Not as intuitive as I expected. Not sure about the usable range of the radios we have. Need to retest they seemed to play out about 3/4 of a mile long way from 22 miles regardless. We had significant weather in the area and did not get any weather warning. Units are small, they do have a clip for our belt and they do hold do hold charge.
Would not recommend without more use and more research. It is a Midlands I depended upon the reputation too much that is on me.

QUESTIONS
Do you have a suggestion for a braided USB cable to use? Micro USB covers way too many styles to know if you are getting the correct one. I am looking for a 3 footer but I would like a braided one. Thank you
Hello! Currently, we do not have any specific recommendations, but this can be used with a standard micro-usb phone charger.

What is the expected actual range in a non-rural, city setting? Does weather play a factor in the range as well?
You should expect up to a half mile in a non-rural, city setting. Any obstructions between you and the person you are communicating with greatly decrease the range as these are line-of-site radios. This is true no matter which brand of FRS radios you purchase.

Can you use these with the MX115 micro radios?
Yes.

Are these radios programmable and compatible with Motorola CLS1410 and Mag One Radios.
No, these radios are not programmable. They will communicate with other FRS and GMRS radios when on the same frequency.

can you charge the rechargeable batteries in a rechargeable battery container instead of using the cable.
Yes, but you will want to make sure that the charger is compatible with the 300mAh 1.2V rechargeable battery packs

How to change battery
Hello,
This information and more can be found in the manual that was included with your purchase, or by clicking on the product manual link on the product page here on MidlandUSA.com. Below is the information requested for your convenience!
Your radio operates with either 3 AAA NiMH batteries or optional 3 AAA alkaline batteries. The belt clip should be removed to ease installation or removal of the batteries. To install the batteries: 1. With the back of the radio facing you, remove the belt clip (see diagram below) for easy access, then remove the Battery Cover by pressing down on the top center and sliding it down from the radio. 2. Insert 3 AAA NiMH batteries or 3 AAA batteries observing the polarity as shown. Installing the batteries incorrectly will prevent the unit from operating or may damage the unit. 3. Return the Battery Cover by sliding it up on the radio. Replace the belt clip, making sure it locks into place.
