Does not have NEARLY the range they claim
I bought this radio week ago. My wife and I wanted it for emergencies in case our cell phones went out. Midland advertises a 28 mile range. I work less than 4 miles from home. So I should be able to transmit to my house on this radio, not happening.
We tested the radio the first night we had it the farthest I could get away from my wife and still transmit and receive was about 400 yards.
There is a hill approximately 3 miles from my home. I can see my house from the top of it. A radio that claims 28 miles range should be able to transmit 3 miles in a direct line of sight, again not happening.

Our second set
This is our second set of T55 two-Way radio. We use them when we go shopping. My hubby likes them over the cell phone. (He's funny that way. :)) So if I run into the store he drops me off and parks and I call him on the two-way to let him know I'm coming out. He then picks me up at the door. Supper! However, apparently I lost mine. Can't find it anywhere. He was NOT happy. So I ordered another set. Now we have three he is happy again.
I have trouble understanding the programing. I have no idea what VOX is and what it does or doesn't do. I've searched for explanations and can find nothing. Every time I want to lock or unlock I have to read the directions. There are so many features and rules we just use it to call each other when we shop or hunting. I do like it I just don't understand all the lingo in the instructions.
I asked my hubby to read them but like most men - "instructions? I don't read instructions"

Perfect walks for our use.
We have been using Midland radios at our training kennel for over a year. We stay in touch with staff members. This allows us to move dogs from one yard to the other without any confusion.
We have a 4 acre site with one metal building and a house. We get clear communication in all locations.

Great Radios for the Price
Used these radios for a hunting trip in Montana to communicate back to basecamp. I was probably a mile out or so from camp and was able to raise my family with no problem. This made it convenient for them to grab the 4-wheeler once I was able to harvest an elk.

Great Wilderness Communication Product
These are very good radios for the dollar. Work even in canyon country.

Range is unacceptable
I agree with the previous review of range. I work 1 mile from my home and took it to test with my wife at home. Nothing. I then tested these with my daughter who drove seperate on vacation incase we got split up. I actually had to see her in my mirror for these to work. It would be ok in a place where you can’t yell, but that would be it. I can almost yell as loud as these connect to each other. Very disappointed.
