MicroMobile Two Way Radio is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 95.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for Off Roading Handset feels super solid, a little heavy, but overall a solid handset. I used this radio on a trail run in the Colorado mountains, it performed very well. The range was really good when talking to other Midland handhelds.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Power in a Small Package ! A couple of us bought these to replace our Cobra 75 CBs. CBs on the trail or overlanding just don't make the grade, the Midland MicroMobile is a definite improvement over any CB. We mounted the "guts" of the radio behind our glove compartment doors so the only thing you see is the all in one microphone. We also opted for external speakers to hear better with the top and/or windows down. Easy range of several miles on the trail compared to less than a mile with the Cobra 75 CBs. A fantastic improvement and absolute clear reception of everyone else in the group. Once the rest of the off road community sees that CB is a "Model T" and GMRS MicroMobiles are Ferrari's, everyone will have one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Radio! This radio really does well. I am able to get 5 Miles in the city! Can’t believe I ran a CB for so long. Midland has been great to work with. Excellent customer service!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Radio Setup For Me I bought the MXT400 initially, which was a fantastic radio as well, but the one thing that was difficult for me was finding real estate to properly mount it. I ended up installing it under my driver seat which made reaching the mic and adjusting volume/channels, etc. difficult. The MXT275 works just as well for me as the MXT400 did for my use cases (offroad communications) but allowed me to mount it in a perfectly accessible location along the passenger side footwell. It's so compact and light! I love that the controls are integrated into the mic, which allows me to control it easily from the drivers seat. The 12v adapter makes for ridiculously easy setup as well and means the whole unit can be moved to another vehicle rather quickly. Overall, I have been extremely pleased with it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for My Tacoma I love my Taco but is doesn't have very much dash space. Ever since I saw that Midland was coming out with the MXT275 last year I had been holding out until it was available. I'm glad I did because it is AWESOME! I hid the head unit by mounting it under the lid of my middle console. The mic fits perfectly in my hand and just feels RIGHT! I upgraded to the MXTA11 6db antenna and am getting 30+ miles with it! Rock on!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from What a great upgrade to my Cobar 75WXST CB Radio I've been watching and waiting for this particular radio and setup to come out. I liked the setup of my old Cobra CB with all the controls on the mic. This fits the bill 100% and the clarity, distance and reliability of GMRS/FRS makes this such a no-brainer. I'm getting all my offroad/camping buddies to get this unit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Mobile Radio Best feature: All settings on headset, now I can hide the radio box. There is not FRS channels (8-14), understandable new FCC regulations. Wish to have channels and radio frequencies (RF) on display, have to look manual/documentation when setting specific RF on repeater channels. Tested it handheld to mobile in ABQ flat terrain, works great, overall the radio is loud and has clear reception.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super Easy to Install & Works As Advertized This unit was installed in my Polaris Ranger. The basic installation was very easy. I opted to fabricate a bracket and ground plane for the antenna, so that took me a little longer than usual, but I wanted the optimal range for the radio. We tried it at a location had been really marginal for the handitalkies, but reception in both directions was loud and clear. I'm looking forward to our elk hunt in the late fall, when this unit will really be put to the test.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from MXT 275 Two Way Radio The radio worked perfect for my ATV. I used a 6 db antenna with a "L" bracket. The radio is very easy to take off of my ATV. I can plug in my midland helmet speaker with mic or any other midland speaker phone I have. And of course I can use it like a handheld microphone stand alone as well. This unit talks much better than my handheld I had been using. A friend saw how convenient it is to use and he ordered one for his UTV. Thanks Midland! I will send photos when I go out next time into the Colorado backcountry where I live

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Product review I purchased a solid mount radio and 2 handhelds mostly off roading. I've used them twice and are extremely satisfied. Not only are they great on the trails they keep our group in contact with each other on the highway home also. The reception was crystal clear and the range was great, we were separated by a couple miles at one point. Im very satisfied and have recommended your products to everyone who will listen. Im considering adding a couple more radios to my other vehicles. Thank you Midland for producing a quality product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The MXT275 Radio is a great unit. I bought and installed the MXT275 in my jeep a couple of weeks ago. Its built well and sounds good and clear. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because even though all the controls are on the hand piece, you can't install the base unit too far away. The hand piece cable is not very long. I wanted to do the install where the base unit could not be seen. I was able to install the base unit in the center console and the hand piece just reaches the dash board. It would not have reached if one was to decide to mount it under the seat. I'm pleased as to how it was small enough to fit in the center console considering a jeep doesn't have too many places to hide electronics. Something to keep in mind..

Rated 5 out of 5 by from MXT275 Install is super easy and flexible. I love the controls on the mic. Unit feels robust and solid. I've been having a great time listening to the chatter on the repeater channels and used it to stay in touch with another vehicle using a HT Motorola GMRS radio in the mountains outside of cell service. Bonus points for the small details like back light color options.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic overall radio; great form factor Originally had a MXT115 in my LR3, anxiously awaiting the arrival of the 275. With the small form factor and easy connections, install was a breeze and the radio is working flawlessly. Midland has really done will with the micromobile series and the handset functionality of this unit makes it my favorite in the family.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent choice for work and play This radio combines the familiarity and ease of operation of a handheld radio with the higher power output and better antenna performance of a dedicated vehicle installed mobile radio. The microphone is of a solid and strong polymer construction which is the right size for the average hand. The controls are intuitive. The menu is on par with handhelds. Basic installation is easy for the novice user and in theory this radio could be quickly transferred between vehicles. The transceiver housing is made out of die-cast aluminum with a rugged paint coating and the housing mounting bracket is very sturdy while allowing for quick removal of the transceiver. The USB port is active whether or not the radio is turned on so beware that if you wire this up directly from the main battery (rather than a key switched source like most 12V outlets in modern vehicles), there will be a small drain. Personally, I have this wired to my aux battery and use the USB port to charge my phone while the vehicle is off. The microphone hanger clip uses foam tape to attach it to a flat surface. Finding a flat surface can be challenging for many many vehicles but it doesn't get easier than sticking the clip to your dashboard. Personally, I installed a generic screw mounted mic clip for added durability and since I had no flat surfaces where I wanted it to be mounted. Overall this is a great product concept that was executed very well and is a welcomed supplement to my HAM and CB radios already installed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very impressed - easy to use Love the product. New to GMRS radios and did my homework. Didn't want foreign-made product so was glad I found MidlandUSA. Looked at a lot of reviews and videos before purchasing this radio. Will probably purchase the MXT400 for another vehicle/permanent install. I like the portability of this radio to other vehicles using the car's DC supply. Still learning how to properly use it, but very happy with the purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Radio I purchased this radio a little over a month ago for my truck, to be used on hunting trips. The handset has great weight, responsive button function, great volume and clarity. I tested with a Midland Base Station, on a lo powered channel had good comms out to about 5 miles on flat open terrain. I purchased the GMRS FCC license to operate. I am excited to get more use out this radio in the coming weeks!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy and compact I put this in my Dodge Journey. It is so light weight and was easy to mount on the side of the center console. I really do not get much traffic talking on it. If your looking for people to talk to your not going to get it on here unfortunately. It receives business traffic talking but they do not respond. I love the weather channel on it if I want up to date when out running around. So if your looking for a radio for off roaming and you have a crew that is with you. Then this is the way to go. As far as distance I know a couple of the traffic is a good 5 to 20 miles away. The reception is kind of static. So you may want to upgrade the antenna. If a different mount option, like door jam, window, becomes available then I am going to try it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Needed comm. gear over phones/CB radio Bought this model over the other Midland GMRS radios, due to the controls all being in the microphone. This will make it much easier to use while on the road, and not have to take my eyes away, by looking down, where I have it mounted. Needed a GMRS unit for group and hwy travel, with some distance TX ability due to terrain over just CB use. I paired this with the optional 6dB antenna, for added distance, and will keep the included short one for a spare. Mostly desert/flat terrain, with some trees being encountered in the mountains/hills.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Radio, Small Form! I bought this radio as I was tired of always having to mess with my CB radio as something would be messed up with it, I got a good deal on this radio and was able to tell a bunch of friends to get one as well. So far, I love it. Comms are clear, it is easy to use, and way less hassle that CB is any day of the week. I would definitely buy another one to go in another vehicle if I had one!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Peace of mind...keeps me connected! I’ve wanted the MXT275 for a while and for my birthday the wife surprised me with it! I installed it into my Jeep for a hard wired, high powered radio while out camping and off roading. I also have some Midland handhelds that are great but I like knowing I’ve got more power and options on the big radio. I love it so much I bought a second one for my tiny camper trailer. Now, while I’m roaming around in the Jeep away from the camp site, we can still get ahold of each other. I was a comms guy in the Army. I guess some things never change.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid and Reliable I bought this radio for use in my Jeep during overland travel. I took my first overland trip this past weekend through the Blue Ridge Mountains in VA and NC and the radio did not disappoint. Very easy to use, great range despite terrain, and the USB port is an added bonus. The unit is very compact and the bracket that comes in the kit makes for easy mounting. I went with a hard wired installation using a Blue Sea Systems fused terminal board. No issues thus far. If you're in the market for a GMRS radio I highly recommend this unit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect size! I just returned from my trip and was really impressed with this little unit. Very simple install and easily hidden away in my 4runner. Combined with my 27 inch antenna had great range and clarity. Also communicates flawlessly with the BCA radios we used while snowmobiling. all around great unit with super fast shipping and great service!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome compact design! The radio was really easy to install. I hid the box under the passenger seat on a Jeep Wrangler. The mic/radio can be easily detached and hidden when not in use. It comes with a cigarette power adapter so I can move it between vehicles. Cant wait to test deep in the woods and see what kind of range I get.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful Radio! The radio came quickly and the package included everything I needed to install it in my Rhino. I really like being able to change channels, adjust the volume and set all the other options right on the microphone! The radio has plenty of power to reach anywhere on my 20 acres of pine trees in the Sierras.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple installation! Still waiting to get this unit out on the trails, but initial testing with another handheld unit appears reception and clarity will be great! Installation was easy. Seems well made with quality components. The handheld mic has some weight to it and is comfortable to use. Would’ve liked an FME connector on the antenna cable to ease routing through the vehicle and an extra cable option for a “hard-wired” installation instead of having to cut the power cord just after the cigarette lighter adapter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from MXT275 Radio a great replacement for CB I purchased several of these radios to replace our CB radios for our Jeep trips. We have all been very satisfied with the great performance and extra features of the MXT275 radios and the increased distance and clarity over CB. Thanks Midland !

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome unit with great sound As a Ranger for The Dyrt, I get the opportunity to test out gear from our awesome partners from time to time. This time, I was able to test out the Midland MXT275 MicroMobile base station. I have also had the opportunity to test out another product from Midland (the X-TALKER T51X3VP3 Two-Way Radio) which we used when testing out the base station. My husband and I installed this in our Jeep Wrangler which has been out fitted for rock crawling (hence why we are in Moab a lot). First impressions: this little unit was super easy to install and use right out of the box. My husband loves radios and communication devices and has a CB, Ham Radio, and now GMRS radio all installed in the Jeep. He was able to fit the small, and sleek device easily amongst all his gadgets without taking up too much space. You can hardwire the radio into the vehicle or just plug it into the cigarette lighter (12v power jack). We used the plug in so we can unplug it if we are not going to be using it for a while. One other benefit is it has a USB port which allows you to charge other devices (like your hand held radios) while driving. It has 15 channels—half of which provide a higher power transmit (since it does not have a mic gain) to improve range. It is also feels really durable considering it is a small, compact and sleek unit. We are not easy on our gear and we feel this unit will be able to take a beating. Usage Impressions: My husband was able to test out this in a variety of situations. He tested range with his friend who was sitting at home (using a non-Midland radio) in Heber City, UT and he was driving. He was able to get about 10 miles in this situation with super clear sound and transmission. We also tested range between two moving vehicles driving on Highway 6 to Moab. The jeep obviously had the base station and I had a handheld X-talker in my car. We were able to get at least 5 miles between vehicles while both were moving and going through the winding canyons/mountain passes. We were also on the higher channels which boosts the transmission signals. One huge bonus was the volume of the speaker. It was loud enough to be heard clearly over the elevated road noise of driving a lifted Jeep at high speeds on the highway. He came through super clear on my handheld and I couldn’t detect much of the surrounding noise. Overall evaluation: we love this little unit. It just allows us to have another means of communication when we are traveling in the backcountry and cell reception is spotty. The sound quality cannot be beat and has the same quality whether you are using another Midland radio or a different brand. How we foresee using this more in the future, is when we are backcountry car camping or hunting where we need to set up some type of base camp while we go out and explore. It will also be great to use if we are part of a jeep caravan off roading and not everyone has a communication device. We can pass out our handhelds so all vehicles can talk to each other on the trails. If you are looking to get a non-handheld radio that has awesome range, clarity and durability for a great price—the MXT275 MicroMobile base station should be on your short list of options if not the only one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Low Profile Mobile Radio The radio works great, is compact, and has a solid feel. Having the controls all in the handset is great. The ability to use repeaters is the main reason I got this radio and for that reason alone this radio is worth it (long overdue). The only downside, which is probably for regulatory reasons, is that the radio doesn't contain the FRS frequencies, just the GMRS frequencies. The channels are still aligned though. It just skips over the channel numbers for the FRS frequencies.

RV with fiberglass roof and previous cb radio. Can I use the existing cable and what can I do to add a proper ground plane?

Yes, you can use the existing cable. You can purchase the mirror mount or universal lip mount which will create a proper ground plane.

Are the 275 and 115 models compatible with other brands of GMRS radios or strictly midland to midland only?

Asked by: Coach
Any radio in our MicroMobile line up (MXT105, MXT115, MXT275, and MXT400) will communicate with any other radio, regardless of brand, as long as it is also a UHF GMRS or FRS radio using the same channel/frequency.

What type of connector is used to connect the handset to the base unit? I would like to use a surface mounted connector on the dash of my vehicle. I plan to run a cable from the surface mount to the hidden base unit.

Asked by: Smittie
This is a RJ45 connector. The cord for the head unit is about 6ft when stretched.

Regarding the mxt275 with the stock antenna, is an swr check still required. It does not mention that in the online owners manual. It just describes the procedure with no mention to swr.

Asked by: Leo62
No, all of our antennas are "plug and play" meaning they are ready to go out of the box. No SWR meter required as they are tuned to a center frequency. MidlandUSA

Can you please tell me the pinouts for the wiring between the handheld control unit and the main unit of the MXT275? With the pinouts I can see if I can connect these two with existing wiring that may have one or two fewer wires than the standard.

Yep, I will send it to you via email. Please note your options will be limited as most of the radio is in the handset.

What is the power output is on "low" or on channels 1-7? How much current does the unit draw when transmitting at high power, low power and just receiving?

Asked by: Xterrible
Hello, the MXT275 is a GMRS radio unable to transmit over 5W of power on channels 1 - 7 per the FCC. That will be the only power setting you will be able to access per programming on these channels. On the current draw; with the radio off it will pull less than 5mA, low transmitting power is less than 1750mA and on high less than 3500mA. Receiving is less than 300mA.
