Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Hunting Radios I've Ever Owned I bought a set of these radios 3 or 4 years ago. My hunting partner and I were so impressed with their range and clarity that he purchased another set and now we outfit our entire hunting party. They have been extremely effective in the mountains of Vermont and have saved us numerous trips when something caused us to need to contact other hunting party members.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great distance had the radios about a year now. they work very well. only problem is you need extra batteries for a long day out. the rechargeable batteries that come with it will only last 4 hours or so. we use them at the campground for when the kids go out to run around. we've had them work in the neighborhood for 2 miles. and have never been out of range on vacation or in the campgrounds. they work best when cell phone signal is limited as a backup to get a hold of each other.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Above average radios I haven't had a chance to use these extensively yet but very pleased so far. The FRS/GRMS flexibility id great and allows use of full power up to allowed limits. These have all of the features I need plus extras. I also ordered a base radio so we could keep track of our grandkids while camping.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what is needed I purchased the GXT Pro series for hunting in deep woods and brush in Pennsylvania. Was very skeptical at first but now, a believer of this product. Works great for what we needed no problem (loud and clear) in the most thick terrain at 600 yards. Like so much buying another set for hunting and 4 more for our construction company.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good range So far so good. Haven't been able to test them in the field yet. But with wife in the house I got in the car and drove for about a mile up the road. Trees all around. Didn't start to fade till I hit a mile. I expect it will do better in the field since we will be outside.

I have no idea what GMRS/FRS is. Can I just use these radios with my hunting party without obtaining a license? If not, where and how do I obtain an FCC license?

Having done some research one does not need an GMRS license if the power output on the shared FRS/GMRS channels is less than the FRS limit. What is the power output for channels 1-7 on Low and Medium? I know you state on High it is up to 5W

Asked by: Graham
Hey Graham, that is not the case. If a radio is capable of transmitting over 2W of power it is a GMRS radio that requires FCC licensing. It does not matter what channel it is on or what power level it is transmitting at the time.

Is the gxt1050pv4 gmrs repeater capable? If so. Does the radio automatically do 5Mhz spacing?

Asked by: WQNC984
Hello, no the GXT1050 is not programmed for this function. Our MicroMobile line can access repeater channels, but we do not have any products currently that are repeaters.

Will this radio talk to the micro mobile high power channels that are repeater capable? I believe it is channels 16-22.

Asked by: hughes18
Hello, yes the GXT1050 is capable of communicating with GMRS MicroMobile radios on 15 - 22. To do so you would need an FCC license but you should already have one if using a MicroMobile GMRS radio, so you should be good to go!

Are the "Xtra channels part of the FRS band or something else?

Asked by: Johann
Hello Johann, The "extra channels" are just pre-programmed channels with privacy codes but still using the FRS/GMRS frequencies. Hope that helps!

I already have 2 midland vph marine...I want to know wich radio will communicate with them?

Asked by: Chuvk
Hello Chuvk, At this time, MidlandUSA is not currently producing new VHF Marine radios. You would need to have other Marine radios that are programed to the same VHF frequencies to be able to communicate. We do have questions about these radios from time to time and the best people to talk to would be our customer service line at 816-241-8500 between 8:00am- 4:30pm CST Monday - Friday so we can better address your needs!
