Hurricane season is in full swing and runs from June through November. Hurricanes can bring high winds, flash flooding, rip currents, storm surges, and even tornadoes. With the many risks associated with hurricanes, are you informed and ready to act if one strikes your area?

There are several steps you can take to make sure you are prepared in the event of a hurricane. Most importantly, be sure to keep track of all news, updates, and alerts. A weather alert radio can help notify you when important information is released, and also save time during a storm. A hand crank-powered model is a great option because it has multiple power sources and can continue to broadcast alerts even if you are trapped in your home for several days without electricity.

In addition, put together an emergency kit today with everything you might need during a powerful tropical storm. Make sure to include essentials such as:

  • Non-perishable food

  • Flashlights

  • Batteries

  • Blankets
